Frequently asked questions about Patrick Writes Good.
QYou do know it should be "Patrick Writes Well", right?
Yes—that's the joke 😅.
QWhich languages do you support?
Only English. I'd recommend finding a technical writer who is fluent (not just proficient) in your audience's primary language. This can matter even more when the industry you are in has a lot of unavoidable jargon. It rarely translates well. (And—for now—beware AI translation services. They're not very good yet.) QHow do you price technical content, content engineering, and consultation?
In general:
Written content: $90 per hour
Video content (including high-res GIFs): $120 per hour
Content engineering: $135 per hour
Consultation: $500. However, if you choose to use my services, I'll apply 100% as a credit toward the cost of services rendered.
That said, I try to be flexible!
Depending on the scope of a project, we might want to agree to a per project or per deliverable rate.
Are you a 501(c)(3) non-profit? Does your product or service support underserved or historically disadvantaged or disenfranchised communities? Let's talk.
QWhat sorts of deliverables can I expect?
The assets I deliver will depend on your specific needs and the scope of your project, but here are the sorts of deliverables I can create.
Written content: How-to articles, FAQs, Troubleshooting guides, Getting Started guides, Integration guides.
Video content: Product and Feature overviews with voiceover, Training videos, GIF capture.
Content engineering: API documentation, API cookbooks, code examples, API-based content delivery via orchestration platform, content automation processes.
Consultation: Documentation strategy, assessment of needs, time and cost estimates.
QI need this done ASAP. Can I get it by tomorrow?
Unlikely! While I try to be quick with delivering your content, this is a side hustle. When we agree to a project, we'll work collaboratively to determine expectations on timing of delivery.
QWhat's with all the links to Conductor?
I moonlight as a freelance technical writer, but my day job is as the Principal Technical Writer for Conductor. They're great! Go check them out.
